West at North is a 17 story high rise mixed use complex located in the heart of downtown Raleigh totaling 409,000 SF. The building features 200,000 SF of retail at the street level, 170 condominium units and four levels of structured parking. This project also features a roof top pool and sun bathing area for the use of condo owners. Other amenities include a fitness center, meeting rooms and a large congregating area for home owners to use as a party area.
The condominum units range from 700 SF to over 1,900 SF each featuring ten foot ceiings, wifi and ethernet wiring with many upgraded features.
The building is a cast-in-place concrete for the residentail condos with reinforced concrete structure for the parking and retail levels. The exterior skin is cast stone, brick masonry, aluminum storefront and metal panels with numerous GEEN features.
Crenshaw Consulting Engineers designed the electrical and fire alarm for both the shell and the fit ups as a design build project with Code Electric and Choate
Construction.
Electrical and Fire Alarm Systems:
The building was designed with 4 electrical services, two 208V and two 480V. The 208V services supplied bus ducts which in turn supplied a meter center on each floor for the condos. One 480V service provided core power and lighting as well as an electrical gutter for the retail level. The other 480V fed the fire pump. The building was equipped with a 400KW generator for required emergency and standby power. The fire alarm system was a full voice evacuation system which incorporated the smoke control system and equipment needed for elevator recall in the fire command center.
